Spells and Curses started as therapy in an NYC basement.
After losing a parent, ending a failed relationship, and moving on from unhealthy friend circles all within a few months, theRave was forced to start a new chapter in life and needed to exercise unfamiliar feelings of love and loss: so he turned to music. Reluctant to express his vulnerabilities aloud in a studio, he self-produced what would become his debut album, SUADADE. The result was a blend of seductive crooning and anthemic battle cries that were difficult to classify yet hard to deny.
Unable to keep this alluring medicine secret, he self-released the album under the name Spells and Curses. Overwhelmingly positive reaction allowed him to form a band to tour the album regionally. Keeping busy, they produced music videos in addition to receiving further critical praise. All this while maintaining a strong presence in NYC, playing to 10,000 people at the Queens Night Market, and packing hometown venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, Bowery Electric, and the legendary Bitter End.
Shortly thereafter, a chance visit to Las Vegas (and a most debaucherous, excessive, and downright FILTHY six days) inspired theRave with a new album. Sinful Things represents a departure from their previous efforts by featuring more layers and yet, more space. With lyrics reflecting on the intertwining nature of sin and willfulness to morality in today’s tech-heavy world, the album gained unanimous critical praise for its lush harmonic arrangements, and diverse genre-blending sound. The strong reception gave way to a 2nd successful regional tour, further cementing Spells and Curses as the next sound to watch out for.
Stylistically ranging from Alt-Rock to R&B, Spells and Curses believe every song is a spell to enhance the moment or a curse to damn it. With a focus on exploring one’s “inner-space”, their mission remains; create "below the belt music" to not only think outside the box, but expand it.

"... the tracks affect you that much more. I encourage people to try it out and see what sensations they encounter throughout it." - Creative Control Magazine
"But what I love about “Suadade” is the fact that it’s just so damned experimental. This is the documentation of a band exploring their headspace and finding multiple voices in return. I would most definitely recommend listening to “Suadade” from start to finish in order to get the full effect intended." - Jammerzine
"... a seductive new take on alternative rock by combining the lush harmonic arrangements of Jeff Buckley, with the textured visceral rock of Deftones." - Radio InterDual
"The sound is very original, sometimes dark and heavy, then suddenly pure industrial with some sweet melodies as well during the calmer parts... Definitely highly recommended to check out asap." - Strutter Magazine
"New York’s Spells And Curses is an interesting group. They don’t really fit neatly in any one category. Their sound reminds me of so many different groups, hardly any of which are similar to another." - Ryze-Up
